Today Eat Cape Town makes no money. It is an independent project run by The Video Cartel (Pty) Ltd, which pays its costs. No restaurant, sponsor or booking platform pays us anything.
What we will never do. Restaurants cannot pay to appear on, or move up, the Eat Cape Town 50, Hot right now or New. Rankings are calculated the same way for every restaurant from published lists, checked diner posts, press coverage and activity on this site.
What we may do later, and the rules that will apply.
1. Clearly labelled sponsorship. A sponsor might support a list (for example a visitor guide for the summer season). It will be named on the page and will never affect which restaurants appear or in what order.
2. Booking referrals. If you book a table through a link on this site, the booking platform may pay us a small fee. Every restaurant's link works the same way, and fees never affect rankings.
3. Reports for restaurant owners. Owners may be offered reports about how diners find and talk about their restaurant. Paying for a report will never affect where a restaurant ranks, and restaurants that do not pay are ranked in exactly the same way.
If any of this changes, we will update this page first and date the change.
